TheTC20automatedcellcounterprovidesaccuracycomparabletoresultsobtainedwithahemocytometer.Itcancountcellswitha6–50μmcelldiameterandwithinabroadconcentrationrangeof5x104–1x107cells/ml,whicheliminatestheneedtodilutecells,thusreducingerrorsassociatedwithsampledilutionspriortocounting.
Thecounterusesdisposablecountingslideswithapatent-pendingdesignthatensuresevendistributionofcellsthroughoutthecountingchamber,regardlessoftheuserspipettingstyle,leadingtoaccurateandconsistentcellcounts.

TheTC20cellcounteruses multifocalplaneanalysistoassesscellviability.Theconventionalmethodofanalyzingviabilityusingasinglefocalplanecanleadtoinaccurateconclusionsbecauselightscatteringandthealignmentofcellsatdifferentheightsinacountingchambercanchangetheappearanceofcells—livecellsmayappeartobedeadandviceversa.Todetermineifcellsareviable,theTC20counteranalyzeseachcellusingimagesacquiredfrommultiplefocalplanesduringthefocusingstep.

ThebroadconcentrationrangeoftheTC20cellcountereliminatestheneedtodilutecellspriortocounting,reducingtheerrorsassociatedwithsampledilutionsthatmaybenecessarywhencountingcellsbyothermethods.Thecountingalgorithmdiscriminatesandcountsindividualcellswithinclustersofuptofivecells,providingaccuratecountswithouttheneedtoextensivelydeclumpcellspriortoloading.
