PlasminogenActivatorInhibitorTypeI(PAI-1)isthemajorinhibitoroftissuetypeplasminogenactivator(t-PA).Intherestingstate,thebody’splasmaconcentrationofPAI-1greatlyexceedsthet-PAplasmalevelandevenfollowingphysicalexertionorvenousocclusion,conditionswhichleadtoincreasedt-PAlevels,PAI-1isusuallyavailableinadequateamountstocompensateforincreasedactivatorlevels.Thus,increasesint-PA-PAI-1complexesaslongasactive,non-complexedPAI-1isavailable.Certainpathologicalconditionsareassociatedwithincreasedt-PAvalues.Theliveristhemajorsiteoft-PAdegradationandhepaticdisordersareoftenaccompaniedbyincreasedt-PAlevelsand,thus,increasedt-PA-PAI-1complexvalues.
